Screen Control Features

When working with a remote desktop, you often need more than just mouse and keyboard control. Features like sound management, clipboard data exchange, file system access, and others can play an important role.

Most features are located in the control panel and are grouped by type:

However, some features are initialized on the remote device side or by the server, and therefore do not have controls available in the panel.

Session Management

Choosing an OS Session

When you connect to a device, existing OS user sessions may already be running: either an interactive session or an RDP session. In this case, a selection window will appear, allowing you to choose which session to use for the remote connection. If no choice is made within 30 seconds and an interactive session is already active on the device, it will be selected automatically by default.

You can also create a new RDP session:

Availability

Available only on devices running Windows Server
Available only if RDP protocol connections are allowed
In all other cases, the interactive session will be used

Session Participants

Multiple technicians can connect to the same remote session simultaneously.

The list of participants is displayed in a window when you click the corresponding indicator:

If unattended connections are disabled in the Agent settings, then when new participants join a session, on the remote device side, a confirmation prompt appears, asking to allow the new participant to join:

At this time, the new participant will see the following window:

Team

To learn how to grant multiple technicians the rights to invite others to a device or a group of devices, see the Technicians and Device Access Rights System guide.

End Session

You can end a session not only by closing the connection tab or window, but also forcibly using the End Session button.

Lock Desktop

When ending a session, you can enable the Lock desktop option. If enabled, the operating system account will be locked after the session ends.

Availability

Available only for Windows operating systems
Available only when the Agent application is installed
Available only when the Agent is running with Administrator rights

Complete for All

If multiple participants are connected to the session and you are the main participant, you can end the session for everyone at once by selecting the Connection completed for all operators checkbox.

Main Participant

The main participant is usually the one who initiated the connection, or the next authorized participant if the initiator disconnects. See more in Session Participants.

Video Recording

You can enable or disable video recording of a remote session. Recordings are stored in the Connection History section of your personal account and are linked to the corresponding session. A single connection session may include multiple recordings.

Recording Size Limits

The size of an individual recording is not limited. However, the total storage available for all recordings in your account depends on your subscription plan.

Monitor Selection

The remote device may have multiple monitors. You can switch between them during the session, or enable the mode that displays all monitors at once.

When connecting to a device with multiple monitors, you will be prompted to choose which monitor to start with:

Communication with Operator

During a session, you can communicate with the operator of the remote device. The following features are available:

Authorization

Authorization identifies you as a user and grants access to sensitive session features, including communication with the operator and saving the session to the connection history. By default, an unauthorized session is considered insecure.

If you connect from your personal account, you are already authorized.

If you connect via public links and are not logged into your Getscreen.me account, you will see the following message when starting the session:

In this case, the session will be time-limited, and all sensitive features will be unavailable.

After an unauthorized session ends, the remote device will display the following window:

Chat

You can exchange text messages with the operator of the remote device:

Here’s how the chat window looks on your side:

And here’s how it looks on the remote device:

Availability

Not available for remote devices running on Android

Call

You can make or receive a voice call with the remote operator:

Here’s how the call window looks on the operator’s side. The window can be minimized so you can continue working with the screen during the call.

And here’s how the call looks on the remote device:

Availability

Available only to authorized technicians
Available only for remote devices running Windows
Available only for WebRTC connection type

Comment

You can save a text comment for a session either during the session or after it ends:

You can find the comment in the Connection History section of your personal account, inside the session card under the Comment tab:

On-Screen Text Translation

When connecting to a device with a foreign-language interface, you can enable automatic translation of the text located under the mouse cursor.

Detailed Guide

Learn more about this feature in the guide Auto-Translation of Text on Remote Desktop Screen.

Data Exchange and Quick Commands

Clipboard Synchronization

You can exchange clipboard data between the remote device and your local device using the manual commands Copy Clipboard from Remote Desktop and Send Clipboard to Remote Desktop.

Automatic Synchronization

For seamless clipboard transfer, use the standard keyboard shortcuts:

  • For sending — the shortcuts common to your local operating system
  • For receiving — the shortcuts common to the remote operating system

Examples include Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V or Ctrl+Ins and Shift+Ins or others.

Command Customization

You can customize the list of commands in the control panel settings. For each operating system, you can rearrange the order of commands or even hide the ones you don’t use.

Image Control

Mobile Device Mode

When connecting to mobile devices, you can enable or disable the mode that displays the screen inside a virtual mobile frame with the corresponding commands nearby:

Availability

Available only when connecting to Android mobile devices

Actual Size Mode

You can enable or disable the actual size mode for the remote device screen:

  • If the remote screen is larger than yours, standard vertical and horizontal scrollbars will appear.
  • If it is smaller, the image will be centered.

Full-Screen Mode

You can enable or disable full-screen mode, which hides all browser interface elements.

In full-screen mode, system hotkeys such as Win, Alt+Tab, and Ctrl+Shift+Esc will no longer work on your local device. Instead, they will be sent to the remote device. This is especially useful for long remote work sessions.

System Key Handling

If you need the same system key behavior without switching to full-screen mode, use the desktop application Getscreen.me Dashboard.

Device Management

This section includes special functions for managing the remote device.

Administrator Rights

If the Agent application was launched without Administrator rights but such rights are required for the task, you can request them during the session:

After clicking the button, a window will appear to enter the administrator’s login and password.

If the current account already has Administrator rights, the form will be submitted automatically, and you will only need to confirm the privilege elevation on the remote device.

Install Application

If the running Agent application is not installed, you can request installation directly from the connection window.

This function is useful when connecting via a Quick Support invitation and permanent access to the device is required. After clicking the request button, a confirmation prompt will appear on the remote device:

Quick Support

Learn more about invitation-based connections in the guide Quick Support for Instant Remote Help.

Availability

Available only for Quick Support invitation-based connections
Available only for devices running Windows
Available only for Agent version 2.9.6+

Reboot Device

You can reboot the remote device during a session with automatic reconnection. The restart can be performed in both normal and safe modes.

Availability

Available only for devices running Windows
Available only for Agent version 2.7.6+
Available only if the Agent application is installed

Black Screen Mode

You can enable or disable Black Screen Mode, in which the display on the remote device is hidden. At the same time, you as the technician can still see everything happening on the screen.

This feature is useful when you need to conceal sensitive information on the remote device from people physically present near the monitor.

Detailed Guide

Learn more about this feature in the guide Black Screen Mode.

Availability

Available for devices running Windows 10.0.19041+
Available for Windows Agent version 2.6.9+
Available for Linux Agent version 1.8.356+
Not available if the Agent is not installed
Not available if disabled in the Agent settings
Not available for unauthorized users

Input Lock Mode

You can enable or disable Input Lock Mode, in which the remote device ignores all local keyboard and mouse input. At the same time, you as the technician can continue controlling the device using your own keyboard and mouse.

This feature is useful when a technician needs to perform work without interference from the remote user.

Availability

Available for devices running Windows
Available for Agent version 2.9.2+
Not available if the Agent is not installed
Not available if disabled in the Agent settings
Not available for unauthorized users

Cursor Display

You can enable or disable mouse cursor display on the remote device.

Video Recording

If the cursor is disabled, it will not appear in the video recording of the session.

Keyboard Synchronization

You can enable or disable keyboard synchronization mode.

By default, the connection window sends key codes to the remote device. With different keyboard layouts, this may cause a mismatch — the technician types one text, but another appears on the remote device.

If synchronization mode is enabled, instead of key codes, the actual typed characters are sent.

Availability

Available for devices running Windows, Linux, and macOS
Not available in view-only mode set in the Agent application settings

Sound Transmission

During a session, you can enable or disable sound transmission from the remote device.

Sound Transmission from macOS Devices

Learn how to configure sound transmission for macOS in the guide Configuring Sound on macOS Devices.

Availability

Not available if sound playback is disabled on the remote device at the system level
Not available for WebSocket connections

Observer Mode

You can enable or disable Observer Mode, in which your keyboard and mouse input will not be sent to the remote device.

This mode is useful when you only need to monitor the device without the risk of accidental input actions.

Technician Functions

This section includes functions that do not control the remote device and do not send any commands to it.

All functions are performed within the technician’s connection window.

Screenshot

You can take a screenshot of the remote device at any moment and save it as an image file.

System Information

You can view system information, including integrated devices, installed software, network properties, and operating system details.

Control Panel Management

Pin

By default, the collapsed control panel is hidden when the mouse cursor is not hovering over it.

To keep it always visible, you can pin the panel.

Move Panel

The control panel can be moved to any of the four sides of the connection window, so it won’t interfere with your work:

Settings

You can adjust the local settings of the connection window. All values are saved in the browser’s local storage.

In the settings window, you can configure the list of quick commands and microphone audio for calls:

Session Quality Management

During a remote session, connection issues may occur. These can originate either on the technician’s side or on the remote device’s side and may affect the overall connection quality.

In this section, you can use various tools to manage and restore the connection.

Restart

You can perform a full restart of the connection, which completely refreshes the contents of the connection window.

Availability

Not available for unauthorized users

Connection Settings

You can view information about the current connection type and diagnostic statistics.

It is also possible to switch the data transfer channel between WebRTC and WebSocket, and to refresh the video stream.

Video Transmission Settings

To improve performance and reduce traffic usage, you can disable desktop wallpapers and turn off color transmission.

You can also set default values in the Agent application settings or in group settings.

Group Settings

Learn more about configuring group settings in the guide Device Grouping.

Availability

Available only for remote devices running Windows
Available for Agent version 3.3.0+
